Service Description

Learn the foundations of landscape painting in this 5-week Watercolour Landscapes for Beginners course at IN ART Studio in Calgary.

Designed specifically for beginners, this course will introduce you to the essential techniques needed to paint beautiful, atmospheric landscapes with confidence. Over five weeks, you’ll learn how to work with watercolour step by step while creating a variety of landscape paintings.

No previous painting experience is required. We’ll start with the fundamentals and gradually introduce more techniques as the course progresses.

What You’ll Learn

Throughout the course, we’ll explore:

• Essential watercolour materials and how to use them
• Water-to-pigment control
• Wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques
• Creating smooth washes and gradients
• Basic colour mixing and creating natural landscape palettes
• Painting skies, clouds and atmospheric effects
• Mountains and creating a sense of distance
• Trees, foliage and natural textures
• Water and simple reflections
• Creating foreground, middle ground and background
• Understanding light, shadow and tonal values
• Soft, hard and lost edges
• Simplifying photo references for painting
• Basic landscape composition
• Building a painting from the first wash to final details

Each class includes step-by-step demonstrations, guided painting and individual feedback, giving you plenty of time to practise and ask questions.

Perfect for Beginners

This course is ideal if you’ve always wanted to try watercolour but weren’t sure where to begin, or if you’ve experimented on your own and would like more structured instruction.

By the end of the five weeks, you’ll have completed several landscape paintings and developed a strong foundation for continuing your watercolour journey independently.
