Learn how to paint beautiful, expressive flowers while building strong watercolour skills in this 8-week Watercolour Flowers Course at IN ART Studio in downtown Calgary.

This comprehensive course is designed for students who want more than a one-time workshop. Over eight weeks, you’ll have time to understand watercolour techniques, practise consistently, receive individual feedback, and develop confidence in creating your own floral paintings.

Whether you are new to watercolour or already have some painting experience, the course will help you develop a fresh, loose and expressive approach to flowers while strengthening the fundamentals of watercolour painting.

What You’ll Learn

Throughout the 8-week course, students will explore:

• Water and pigment control
• Wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry watercolour techniques
• Transparent washes and layering
• Colour mixing and creating harmonious floral palettes
• Painting roses and a variety of other flower shapes
• Creating soft, natural-looking petals
• Leaves, stems and expressive greenery
• Soft, hard and lost edges
• Light, shadow and tonal values
• Creating depth without overworking a painting
• Loose and expressive brushwork
• Floral composition and arranging multiple flowers
• Simplifying photo references
• Creating backgrounds that complement the main subject
• Developing a personal and confident painting style

Classes include instructor demonstrations, guided exercises, individual feedback and plenty of hands-on painting time.

By the end of the course, students will have completed a collection of floral watercolour paintings while gaining techniques that can be applied to many other subjects.

Who Is This Course For?

This Calgary watercolour course is suitable for beginners, intermediate students and anyone looking to improve their floral painting skills. You do not need previous watercolour experience to join.

Because this is an extended 8-week program, students will have the opportunity to progress from foundational techniques to more complex compositions at a comfortable pace.
